ROMAN GEERMANS- Violin

​

Romana Geermans (nee Mazalnova), born in Prague, member of a musical family, twice won the prestigious Kocian International violin competition in her early teens and was the youngest member of the renowned Czechoslovak Chamber Orchestra at the age of fifteen.  She toured with them Internationally for seven years.  She studied under Prof Dr Otoka Stejskal and graduated from Prague Conservatorium completing her post graduate studies in 1982, including a year studying professional gypsy music. Romana was also involved with the Film music studio in Prague which recorded film scores for American, French, Italian and English films.

 

In Australia she was the concert master for the Orana Chamber Orchestra and played with the Australian Pops Orchestra for several years.  Romana has toured extensively in Australia with many different groups.  Romana has also performed at the New Caledonia Jazz festival. Currently she has recorded two CD’s and another is underway.

 

MATTHEW FAGAN- 10 String Guitar and other guitars

Matthew Fagan has long been established as one of Australia’s finest exponents of the guitar.

Matthew has toured with Billy Connolly, The Buena Vista Social Club, Shirley Bassey, Natalie Cole and Michael Crawford.  Matthew’s virtuosic rendition of Bach’s famous Toccata in D Minor featured on ABC TV.

 

Matthew performs regularly in Major Concert Venues nationally and internationally and has performed in more than 120 countries worldwide as a soloist, with orchestra and bands including extensive touring across Europe, South America, Alaska, Canada, China, Japan and South East Asia

 

Matthew’s music education has been at the Victorian College of the Arts (Performance -Classical and improvisation), Monash University (Ethnomusicology, Composition Education) and a Masters PHD of Cultural Development at the University of Melbourne.   Matthew has studied and/or performed with masters John Williams, Paco Pena, Leo Kottke, Martin Taylor, Joe Pass and Tommy Emmanuel amongst others.

Gypsy Fire Duo presents a captivating live show performed with passion, renewed vigour and virtuosity.


Their program features Gypsy Jazz, Eastern European Gypsy  Swing Jazz a la Stephan Grapelli and Django Reinhardt, Tango, Celtic Reels and Jigs,  O’Carolan’s harp and lute music arranged for guitar and Violin,  original Celtic and Flamenco music composed by Matthew Fagan from his successful CD Indigo Moon.

Gypsy fire is a Gypsy Jazz, Celtic and world music group, founded by Matthew Fagan in 1997, which pioneered Gypsy Jazz in Australia with fiery performances at the Port Fairy Folk Festival, National Folk Festival, Wangaratta Jazz Festival, major national venues and more. 

​

The concert features Matthew Fagan on unique ten-string Spanish guitar and six-string Godin guitar, and amazing Czech violinist Romana Geermans who performed in the original line-up of Gypsy Fire.

​

Classical Shows feature Vivaldi four Seasons in addition to Gypsy Jazz,  arranged for guitar and violin.
